PDP is Now a Slave to APC, Doesn’t Exist Anymore as Political Party — Kenneth Okonkwo

Nollywood actor and spokesperson for the Labour Party’s Obi-Datti presidential campaign council, Kenneth Okonkwo, has sparked controversy with his recent assertion that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has become subservient to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okonkwo, in a statement shared on his official X handle, criticized the PDP, claiming it has lost its autonomy and is now a mere shadow of its former self in Nigerian politics.

He said, “PDP is now a slave to APC. It’s now a second-class captured political party that has no mind of its own. It doesn’t exist anymore as a political party in Nigeria.

“Whoever is still in PDP is a self-acclaimed slave of APC. Sorry your leaders have already pledged to support,” he added.

This assertion comes amidst internal divisions within the PDP, following the endorsement of Amb. Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during its 98th meeting in Abuja.

The rift within the party also involves conflicting interests regarding leadership positions, with the camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar advocating for Damagum’s return to the position of Deputy National Chairman (North).
