A lead pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Olanipekun Olukoyede, has been appointed by Bola Tinubu to lead the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Olukoyede, who is a lawyer, served as secretary of the anti-graft agency for two years during the reign of Ibrahim Magu as acting chair of the commission.
He, along with Magu and a number of other officials, was suspended from office by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020 and was never recalled.
Olukoyede’s appointment, according to Ajuri Ngelale, a presidential spokesman, comes after Abdulrasheed Bawa, the EFCC’s suspended Executive Chairman, resigned.
By using the authority granted to him by Section 2(3) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, which states that “the Chairman and members of the Commission, other than ex-officio members, shall be appointed by the President.”
Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of Mr. Ola Olukoyede to serve as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC for a term that is renewable for another four years in the first instance.
