Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns regarding the absence of two prominent Nigerian leaders amid the nation’s economic challenges.
The departure of Kashim Shettima to the United States for the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit, and the prolonged absence of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have prompted questions about the leadership of the country.
Shettima’s trip to Dallas, Texas, for the summit hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa, coincided with growing uncertainty surrounding Tinubu’s whereabouts.
Today made it exactly eight days after Tinubu attended the World Economic Forum’s (WEF’s) Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but he is yet to return to Nigeria. Leaving many wondering about the current leadership arrangement.
Atiku expressed his concerns via his official X handle, stating, “I have been inundated by reports of the absence of the president and vice president from the country.
“It is unprecedented that the two leaders will be absent from the country at the same time, especially now that the nation is faced with daunting challenges.
“The question that readily comes to mind is who is in charge of government at this point, or is it right to assume that we are on autopilot?
