Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) has been contacted by the European Commission for clarification over how it handled content related to the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas.
In accordance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) of the European Union, the commission formally requested information from X on Thursday.
EU Commissioner Thierry Breton requested that X reassess content control earlier this week in light of the rising violence.
The statement reads, “This request follows indications received by the Commission services of the alleged spreading of illegal content and disinformation, in particular the spreading of terrorist and violent content and hate speech.”
One of the DSA’s requirements is a facility for reporting unlawful online content.

Also, there must be protocols in place to deal with the dissemination of false information during a crisis.
Financial penalties for selected corporations might reach 6% of their global turnover. A firm may be temporarily shut down with a court order in extraordinary cases.
