Segun Olatunji, the General Editor of First News, has resigned from his position following a dispute over a contentious story involving Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Olatunji’s resignation comes after he was released from custody, having spent days in an underground cell of the Defence Intelligence Agency.

In a resignation letter dated May 8, 2024, addressed to the Publisher/Managing Director of First Media Network Limited, Olatunji cited a disagreement with the company’s management regarding the handling of the Gbajabiamila story as the reason for his resignation.

The story, titled ”How Gbajabiamila attempted to corner $30bn, 66 houses traced to Sabiu,” led to controversy, prompting the management of First News to issue an apology to Gbajabiamila.

In his resignation letter, Olatunji expressed hope that the truth regarding the situation would eventually come to light.

He also called upon the management of First Media Network Limited to promptly settle his outstanding salaries, which reportedly amount to one year’s worth.

Olatunji stated, ”In view of the latest development regarding the Gbajabiamila story and the stance of the company’s Management, I hereby tender my resignation as the General Editor of First News.

”It has become imperative for me to resign my appointment for the safety of my person and my family.

”I thank the company’s management for giving me the opportunity to contribute my quota to its operations in the past four years,” he added.
