Amid Nigeria’s current economic crisis, renowned broadcast journalist, Rufai Oseni has criticized Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 2023 presidential debates and highlighted that his absence was a missed opportunity to scrutinize economic policies.

Taking to his X account, he stated that participating in debates could have provided a platform to discuss and evaluate potential solutions.

Also, Rufai emphasized the importance of challenging incumbents’ economic ideas before crises arise.

He wrote, “You can now see why Presidential debates matter.”

“At least if the incumbent had attended some, we would have challenged his economic ideas before these economic problems,” he added.

Recall that during the 2023 election, the Center for Democracy and Development had invited the presidential candidates to speak on their plans for the country.

The debate was meant to allow Nigerians to ascertain which candidate and political party possessed the best ideas for bringing lasting solutions to the country’s challenges.

However,  Bola Tinubu was absent, but his running mate, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, among others, was present.
