At the age of 90, renowned British actor and two-time Academy Award winner Sir Michael Caine announced his retirement from performing. The disclosure was made in an interview today on BBC Radio 4.
With a career spanning seven decades, Caine is well-known for his parts in timeless films like “Zulu” and “The Italian Job,” as well as contemporary blockbusters like “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight” trilogy. On October 6, “The Great Escaper,” his last movie, was released. He co-stars in the movie with Glenda Jackson, who passed away in June after it was finished.
“I keep saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now,” Caine told BBC Radio. He also added: “I’ve figured, I’ve had a picture where I’ve played the lead and had incredible reviews. What am I going to do that will beat this?”.
Just one month before the publication of his debut book, “Deadly Game,” Caine decided to resign. The plot of the book centres on the exploits of DCI Harry Taylor, a police officer who has no regard for formalities or political standing.
An era in British cinema comes to an end with Caine’s retirement. His contributions to the film business have made a lasting impression, and viewers throughout the world will continue to adore his performances.
