A tragic road accident near Ijaye on the Ibadan/Iseyin road has claimed seven lives and left 15 others injured. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Tunde Adewale, Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State, provided details at the state Sector Command office in Eleyele, Ibadan, on Friday. According to Adewale, the accident involved two commercial vehicles—a white Nissan bus with the registration number SEY 254 XY and a white Mazda bus with the registration number LGB 343 XA. The vehicles were carrying 22 passengers in total.
The crash, which involved eight men, 12 women, and two children, resulted in the deaths of five men, one woman, and one girl. The head-on collision happened during a downpour, which likely contributed to the severity of the accident.
Adewale explained, “The accident involved 22 people. Seven died and 15 were injured. The two commercial vehicles collided head-on due to heavy rain shortly after Ijaye town.”
The injured passengers are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue. Four of the deceased have already been claimed by their families, while the remaining three are still at the mortuary.
Adewale urged motorists to be cautious and follow traffic rules to avoid such tragic incidents. He emphasized the importance of adhering to all traffic cautions, especially during adverse weather conditions.
He stated, “Motorists need to always obey traffic rules and regulations and adhere strictly to all traffic cautions on the road to prevent avoidable crashes.”
