Three-time Oscar Nominee Piper Laurie Passes Away at 91

At age 91, Piper Laurie, an actress best remembered for her work in “Carrie,” “The Hustler,” and “Twin Peaks,” has passed away. Laurie was nominated for three Oscars.

At the age of 17, Laurie was signed by Universal Studios, receiving a contract and a new name: Piper Laurie. Laurie was born Rosetta Jacobs in Detroit, Michigan, to parents of Russian and Polish descent. Her work in the films “The Hustler” and “Carrie” brought her to the limelight.
 
Marion Rosenberg, Laurie’s manager, announced that she had passed away early on Saturday morning at her Los Angeles home. Rosenberg called Laurie “one of the most remarkable and versatile actresses of her day, a brilliant and creative mind, and a glorious human being” .
 
 Laurie had skills outside of acting. She gave up acting for the civil rights movement for a fifteen-year period. She was also well-known for her civil rights movement advocacy work.
She later appeared in a number of TV episodes, such as Matlock, Murder She Wrote, and ER, where she played the mother of George Clooney’s character. She is also well-known for her support of the civil rights movement and is a three-time Oscar nominee.
 
She leaves behind a legacy of great performances and a dedication to social justice, which will ensure that her contributions to film and television are remembered.
