Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has solidified a strategic partnership with Austria by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at establishing a K-9 (Dog) training unit to enhance security and crime detection within the state.
Mbah announced this significant development via his official X handle on Thursday, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to attracting investments and fostering partnerships for the advancement of Enugu State.
During his visit to Vienna, Austria, Mbah engaged in fruitful discussions with senior government officials, members of the business community, and international development partners. These interactions culminated in the signing of the MOU between the Enugu State Government and the Austrian Minister of Interior, Gehard Karner, to establish the K-9 training unit.
Mbah stated, “I took our quest for investment and partnerships to Vienna, Austria, where I met with senior government officials, the business community, and international development partners.
“We had productive exchanges, which, among others, culminated in the signing of an MOU between the Austrian Minister of Interior, Gehard Karner, and me for establishing a K-9 training unit in Enugu State to boost security and crime detection.”
Additionally, Mbah revealed that discussions with Austrian Minister of Agriculture Norbert Totschnig yielded plans to create an agricultural model region in Enugu State. The proposed project, spanning 2,000 to 5,000 hectares, seeks to replicate Austria’s successful cooperative agricultural model.
However, Mbah acknowledged the challenges posed by existing infrastructural and economic limitations within Enugu State, recognizing the uncertainty surrounding the feasibility of such a large-scale agricultural transformation.
