Gaza’s Healthcare Crisis: Hospitals Overwhelmed Amid Looming Threat

As the Israel-Hamas conflict continues, hospitals in Gaza are overwhelmed with patients and are in dire need of supplies as a potential assault approaches.

On Sunday, medical professionals in Gaza issued a dire warning. Thousands could perish as hospitals there, already overflowing with injured patients, have ran out of fuel and other essentials. The UN has issued a warning that hospitals could run out of gasoline for backup generators in two days, illustrating how desperate the situation is.

Already, the fighting has caused great suffering. Since the combat started, 2,670 Palestinians have died and 9,600 have been injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The 2014 Gaza War, which lasted more than six weeks, had fewer losses than this one.

The United States has reportedly chosen David Satterfield, a former American ambassador to Turkey with extensive Mideast diplomatic experience, as a special envoy for humanitarian issues in the Middle East in response to the crisis. His main goal will be to provide Palestinians in Gaza with humanitarian aid.

The world community is keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops in the hopes that it can be resolved quickly to stop any further casualties.
