NDLEA Confiscates N80 Million Worth of Drugs, Arrests 134 Suspects in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja has, in its fight against drug trafficking, confiscated 3,988.74kg of various drugs with a street value of N80 million.

In an interview on Monday, Kabir Tsakuwa, the FCT Commander of Narcotics, revealed this. He disclosed that 134 alleged drug users and dealers had been detained in the third quarter. Six of these suspects are female, and 128 are male.

Cannabis sativa, cocaine, methamphetamine, tramadol, rohypnol, and diazepam are among the narcotics collected. Cannabis sativa was the main drug that the NDLEA’s agents seized.

Tsakuwa added that numerous people were charged and found guilty at the same time. He said, “One hundred and four (104) suspects were prosecuted, out of which 27 were convicted” .

The head of the NDLEA emphasised the need for a balanced approach to drug control because supply and demand reduction are mutually supportive. According to him, the supply reduction approach focused on enforcement tasks, whereas demand reduction was aimed at preventive efforts.

Tsakuwa finished by noting that programmes had been set up in educational institutions, businesses, and houses of worship to guarantee the participation of all parties. Through counselling at their rehabilitation facility, they also offer support systems for drug-dependent people.
