N2.5bn Fraud: EFCC Begins Investigation on Kwankwaso Over Alleged Misappropriation of Party’s Campaign Funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of campaign funds by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) led by Kwankwaso for the 2023 elections.

The probe also addresses the failure of the party’s National Working Committee, led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, to pay party agents who worked during the presidential and governorship elections.

Reliable sources from Vanguard reveal that the anti-graft agency has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, to provide evidence supporting the allegations of fraud against Senator Kwankwaso and his Private Secretary, Mrs. Folashade Aliu.

Mrs. Aliu is suspected to be a key figure in the alleged misappropriation of party funds through a secret account for campaign donations.

The petition filed by Oginni also implicates other signatories to the NNPP’s bank account, including Prof. Rufai Alkali, Abba Kawu, and Dipo Olayokun.

“Consequently, the anti-graft agency may be compelled to probe the sudden wealth of Dipo Olayokun and how he acquired properties in choice areas of Abuja in less than two years of his tenure as signatory to NNPP’s account.

Confirming the development in a telephone interview with Vanguard in Abeokuta, the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, stated that he visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja last Wednesday.

He provided statements and clarifications regarding the petition he signed on behalf of the party, which alleges that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his team are involved in a N2.5 billion fraud.

“Truly, I was invited by the EFCC. I honoured the invitation and I was satisfied with the professionalism of EFCC officers. I answered questions related to the petition I signed on behalf of NNPP without any harassment or intimidation.

“They want to be sure that the allegations are true and without any ill motives. We are very sure that Nigeria is in a very safe stance with these crops of EFCC officers who are ready to get rid of corruption at Nigeria high places without sacred cows,” Oginni said.

Given the confirmed invitation of the NNPP’s National Secretary, it is evident that the investigation into the petition against Senator Kwankwaso has begun. His summons by the anti-graft agency to clear his name is now anticipated.
