Tinubu’s Govt Spends N549 Million on ‘Parking Fee’ for Faulty Presidential Jet in Germany Despite Promises to Reduce Wasteful Expenditures

The Nigerian government, under Chief Bola Tinubu, has incurred parking charges totaling N549 million for a faulty Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737-700) marked 5N-FGT, which was transported to Germany for repairs.

According to SaharaReporters, the aircraft has been parked at Euro Airport in Germany since March 25, accumulating a daily parking fee of €5,000 (N8 million) over 68 days, based on the exchange rate of N1,613.435 per Euro.

The parking fees, amounting to €340,000, exclude the substantial repair costs also being incurred.

Despite the government’s promises to reduce wasteful expenditures, billions of naira have been spent on the presidential fleet.

In April, Tinubu had to charter a flight to Saudi Arabia for the World Economic Forum from the Netherlands after the Gulfstream Aerospace GV-SP (G550) he was using developed a fault in The Hague.

The jet, registered as 5N-FGW, experienced issues including an oxygen leak, forcing the president and his delegation to leave it behind and use a chartered jet to continue their journey.

The aircraft, a Gulfstream G550 class, was originally dedicated to Kashim Shettima was also used by former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
