Red Cross Offers N23 Billion in Aid to Nigeria as Hunger Crisis Worsens

In response to the worsening food crisis in the nation, the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) has issued an emergency appeal to fund CHF 27 million (N23 billion).

The delegation leader for the humanitarian network, Bhupinder Tomar, made this known during a press conference in Abuja.

He claimed that this year, Nigeria is experiencing an unprecedented hunger crisis and that people who aren’t sure where their next meal will come from need to be supported.

The support will be provided to approximately 1,092,300 people in the form of financial aid, food and nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The increasing number of individuals experiencing food insecurity, according to Oluyemisi Adeaga, president of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, poses a threat to the peace and stability of the nation.

According to Mr. Adeaga, Nigeria, like every other great country, must give its people’s food needs top priority. He claimed that ending hunger in the country is urgently necessary for national security as well as matters of dignity.

“We call on all well-meaning people and organizations to join the efforts of the Nigerian Red Cross Society to bring relief to some of the most vulnerable members of our society who now face the human indignity of not knowing where their next meal will come from,” he said.
