Suspect Of N38trn Stamp Duty Fees Looting Appointed Deputy Governor of CBN Under Buhari’s Regime—Obono-Obla Reveals

Former President Mohammed Buhari’s aide, Okoi Obono-Obla has revealed how under Buhari’s Regime, the former acting governor of Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN) was appointed deputy governor of the CBN whilst investigations were still underway concerning his involvement in the N38trn stamp duty looting.

Obono-Obla revealed this during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on the Mic On Podcast on Saturday.

In his words, ” There was this issue of stamp duties, school of banking honours. It’s an NGO, they’ve written a petition saying that the banks have recovered almost 38trn over the years for stamp duties and that this money hasn’t been remitted.

“And they mentioned the former acting governor of the central bank, you know when Emefiele was removed, the acting governor was appointed.

” That man was the managing director of Nigerian… Banking System, a firm established by bankers in Nigeria, so they mentioned him and shortly after that, there was this announcement that he had been appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank.

He continued, “So I wrote a memo informing President Buhari, how can you appoint him a Deputy Governor, someone who we are investigating concerning stamp duties? These were the two memos we are investigating.

” I gave it to ADC, so he kept it for one month, one evening he called me. He said ‘Okoi Obono please I want to see you’. Then he handed those two memos to me and said, ‘It’s too hot, go and Investigate other stories’, so I left, I was very disappointed,” he said.
