Chelsea’s rocky start under Mauricio Pochettino has continued as they let a 2-0 lead slip against London rivals Arsenal at home. The Blues took a dominating lead thanks to a Cole Palmer penalty and a beautiful Mykhailo Mudryk strike, but the Gunners fought back in the closing minutes with goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.
At Stamford Bridge, Arsenal rallied from a two-goal deficit to level with Chelsea. Substitute Leandro Trossard scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time.
Following William Saliba’s handling of a header intended for the goal by Mykhailo Mudryk, Cole Palmer gave Chelsea the lead from the penalty spot after 15 minutes.
After Palmer, who was acting as a false nine, just missed the target, Arsenal was fortunate to escape with a 1-0 disadvantage.
Within three minutes of the restart, Mudryk extended the advantage when his cross sailed past an unguarded David Raya, and Chelsea appeared on track to post the greatest performance under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Robert Sanchez made a mistake that allowed Declan Rice to score to put the Gunners within one, but Trossard snuck in at the back post to equalize on the volley, keeping the Gunners unblemished in the Premier League this year.
After losing ground to Manchester City on goal differential, Arsenal finished the day in second place. Chelsea is now ranked eighth.
