Kaduna Gov’t Orders Arrest of School Principal and Vice Principal Over Student’s Death

The Kaduna State Government has ordered the arrest of the principal and vice principal of Al-Azhar Academy, a private school in Zaria, over the alleged murder of a student who died after being brutally beaten by them.

The victim, Marwanu Nuhu Sambo, was a JSS3 student of the school. He died on Friday, 20 October 2023, following a severe punishment for missing classes.

The Director General of the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority (KSSQAA), Dr. Usman Abubakar Zaria, confirmed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said that the state government, led by Governor Uba Sani, was determined to ensure a conducive learning environment, equity and justice for all students in the state.

He also urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding while the investigation was ongoing.

According to the statement, a fact-finding team from KSSQAA visited the school, the home of the deceased, the police station where the suspects were detained, the hospital where the death was confirmed, and the graveyard where the burial took place.

The statement said that the KSSQAA had closed down Al-Azhar Academy and sealed off its premises pending the outcome of the investigation
