Amid rising tensions in the area, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has joined troops on the front lines at the border with Lebanon. Netanyahu told the soldiers, “We are now in a double battle,” according to a statement released by his office. The visit by the prime minister occurs when Israel is still trying to prevent Hezbollah from creating a second front against the nation.
Netanyahu cautioned Hezbollah, which receives support from Iran, not to make what he called the “biggest mistake of their lives” by going to war. This harsh warning coincides with increased concerns about the establishment of a new front in the conflict due to artillery exchanges along the Israel-Lebanon border.
Following the dozens of towns that have already been evacuated from the border area, the Israeli Defence Ministry has ordered 14 more communities to follow suit. Netanyahu predicted that Hezbollah “will make the mistake of its life” if hostilities escalated. It will be devastated, as would the state of Lebanon, when we attack it with a ferocity it cannot even fathom.”
