Surprisingly, radical contender Javier Milei is dominating in Argentina’s presidential election. According to reports, younger voters have been drawn to the outspoken right-wing economist, who is well-known for his “shock-jock” approach and aggressive social media campaigning.
It has been said that Milei, the 52-year-old far-right populist head of the Liberty Advances party, resembles a hybrid of Chucky the killing doll and Boris Johnson. As Argentina chooses its next leader, he is favoured to become president of the second-biggest economy in South America.
Argentina is becoming more and more receptive to his extreme economic plans. He is in favour of deregulating firearms, legalising the selling of human organs, and dismantling Argentina’s national bank. Patricia Bullrich, a former minister of security from the centre-right Together for Change coalition, and Sergio Massa, the current minister of economics and the leading candidate for “unity” for the ruling Peronist alliance, are two more prominent contenders for the presidency.
Argentina is currently experiencing rapidly rising inflation and is having difficulty making its debt payments. The results of this election could have a big effect on the future of the nation’s economy.
