The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has withdrawn its appeal at the Supreme Court, which was challenging the election of Mr. Bola Tinubu.
The APM’s petition was primarily based on the argument that Tinubu contested the presidential election without a lawful running mate.
During the proceedings, the counsel to APM, Chukwuma Machukwu Ume SAN, was questioned on the case.
Justice John Inyang Okoro reminded him that the Supreme Court had earlier delivered a judgment to the effect that issues of candidate nomination for elections is an internal affair of political parties. Mindful of the hints from the court, Ume applied to withdraw the appeal.
As for the remaining appeals, the Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal by Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the last presidential election. The Labour Party (LP) also has an ongoing appeal.
With APM’s withdrawal, Tinubu is now left with PDP and LP at the Supreme Court. This development has further streamlined the legal challenges to President Tinubu’s election victory. The nation now awaits the final judgments on these remaining appeals.
