The Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed his sorrow over the collapse of a school building in Busa Buji village, Jos, Plateau State.
The incident has reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 16 students, with many others, including teachers, trapped under the rubble.
In a post on his official X handle, the former governor of Anambra State described the reports as “heartbreaking.” He emphasized the trauma experienced by the young students and the anxiety of their parents during this tragic occurrence.
Obi stated, “I understand that rescue operations began in full swing. I thank various organisations, including the FRSC, NEMA, Red Cross, Army, Police, and many other individuals helping out with the safe rescue of our children and their teachers.
He extended his sympathies to the government and people of Plateau State, the school’s management, staff, and students, as well as the families of all the victims.
Obi also called for a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“My sincere prayers are with the remaining trapped children and teachers for their safe rescue. May God grant eternal rest to the dead, give their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss, and grant quick recovery to the injured,” he added.
