Despite the level of insecurity and hardship, deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Ndigbo community to show their gratitude to Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his contributions to the South-East region.
Speaking at the APC South-East zonal meeting in Abakaliki, Kalu emphasized that Tinubu has provided more benefits to the Igbos than the votes he received from the region during the elections.
Kalu stated, “Bola Tinubu has given Ndigbo more than the vote cast for him during the elections.
“It is presently left for us to repay him for his good works because when one shows appreciation, he gets more,” he added.
The APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, also addressed the meeting, announcing the party’s initiatives to end the marginalisation of Igbos and enhance their role in national politics. He praised the current appointments offered to the zone by Tinubu’s administration and urged for continued unity and support.
“The present appointments offered the zone by Bola Tinubu’s administration is heartwarming and with more involvement in the party’s affairs, more would be achieved.
“We must break this cycle of marginalisation with determination, unity and total support to the party and Bola Tinubu led administration,” Ganduje said.
Ganduje also commended Ebonyi and Imo states for their efforts in promoting the party’s activities and highlighted the importance of gaining support in Anambra, Enugu, and Abia.
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi expressed gratitude for the meeting and noted the party’s deep roots in the state and the South-East. He attributed the recent massive defection of opposition stakeholders to the APC to the state’s inclusive policy.
“The massive defection of opposition stakeholders to APC on July 13 attests to the fact that persuasion works more than bickering and fighting,” he said.
Kalu further highlighted the benefits the Igbos have received, including high-ranking positions in Tinubu’s government.
He mentioned the finalisation of the South-East Development Commission bill, which awaits the Tinubu’s assent, as a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the region.
