The Kano State House of Assembly passed the Kano State Emirates Council Establishment Bill 2024 after it cleared its third reading on Tuesday.
Sponsored by Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello Bututu, who represents the Rimin Gado/Tofa state constituency, the bill establishes Kano as a first-class emirate, alongside second-class emirates: Rano, Gaya, and Karaye.
Rano Emirate includes the Rano, Bunkure, and Kibiya local government areas; Gaya Emirate encompasses Gaya, Albasu, and Ajingi LGAs; and Karaye Emirate comprises Karaye and Rogo LGAs.
