The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a landmark ruling reinstating Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
In addition to reinstating Shaibu to his former position, the court has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to promptly restore his security details.
Philip Shaibu’s reinstatement comes after a period of political turbulence marked by his impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly in April.
The impeachment followed the adoption of a report by a seven-man committee, appointed by the chief judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa. The committee had been tasked with investigating allegations of misconduct leveled against the deputy governor.
During the assembly’s plenary session, eighteen out of nineteen members present voted in favor of Shaibu’s impeachment, with one abstaining from the voting process.
