Labour Party Lambasts Falana; Accuses Him of Intimidation, Misrepresentation

The leadership of Labour Party (LP) has strongly criticized Chief Femi Falana and his chambers for what they describe as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation and mislead the public.

The statement, issued in response to a letter reportedly sent by Falana’s chambers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accuses Falana of intimidating INEC and terrorizing party members.

According to Labour Party, Falana’s letter to INEC warned against recognizing Julius Abure as the National Chairman of Labour Party and purportedly instructed certain political office holders to disassociate themselves from the party in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The party alleges that Falana’s actions are aimed at coercing INEC into compliance with his demands, despite legal judgments affirming Abure’s leadership legitimacy.

“We find it absurd that Mr. Falana is attempting to reinterpret clear constitutional and electoral laws regarding political party ownership,” stated the Party’s leadership.

They emphasized that multiple court rulings have unequivocally upheld Julius Abure’s position as National Chairman and affirmed his authority to conduct party activities in accordance with the party’s constitution.

Labour Party also criticized Falana for allegedly misrepresenting the 2018 Consent Judgment and the 2022 agreement, which they claim have been fully adhered to by the Abure leadership.

They further accused Falana of attempting to undermine the party’s efforts to increase membership and strengthen internal governance structures.

“We used to hold Mr. Falana in high esteem, but his recent actions regarding the Labour Party have caused us to question his motives and methods,” the statement continued.

The party warned Falana and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to desist from what they termed as misleading the public and intimidating INEC.

Labour Party asserted its commitment to defending its integrity and called on Falana to pursue his grievances through legal channels rather than attempting to influence government institutions improperly.
