US President Joe Biden has announced he will withdraw his bid for re-election, stating it is “in the best interest of my party and the country.”
This decision, made just four months before the presidential election, significantly alters the race for the White House.
Biden faced mounting pressure from fellow Democrats following a faltering debate performance against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June.
In a letter posted on his social media, he expressed that serving as president has been the greatest honor of his life.

“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term”.
In his statement, he mentioned that he would address the nation on the matter next week. President Biden also expressed his gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her an “extraordinary partner.”
