Nigeria Ready To Overtake America, China, UK, Other World Economies with Technology – Shettima

Kashim Shettima has declared that Nigeria is not only catching up with the rest of the world, including the United States of America, China, and the United Kingdom but is also ready to overtake them in terms of economy and technology.

Shettima made this statement on Tuesday during the launch of the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, as part of Nigeria’s strategy for digital transformation and leadership in Africa.

The initiative, in collaboration with the tech company Gluwa, aims to train 1,000 Nigerians annually in fields like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other emerging technologies.

During the launch event at the Yakubu Gowon NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau, Dutse, the Vice President urged Nigerian youths to embrace the program, highlighting its significance for the country’s economic future.

According to him: “We are not merely catching up with the rest of the world; we are poised to overtake them. This initiative offers its beneficiaries the chance to become part of a global workforce, driving innovation that will shape our future”.

Shettima highlighted Jigawa State’s leadership in digital technology adoption, referring to the initiative as “a homecoming ceremony for those who have facilitated our journey through the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

He elaborated on the federal government’s broader vision, stating, “We are implementing this initiative nationwide to create a network of tech hubs that will drive Nigeria’s economic growth for years to come.”

Shettima praised the partnership with Gluwa, noting its alignment with Tinubu’s agenda to transform Nigeria’s digital technology landscape.

He acknowledged Gluwa’s significant contributions, particularly its empowerment of Aella Microfinance Bank, which has enabled the disbursement of over N100 billion to two million Nigerians.

Discussing the global impact of the initiative, Shettima remarked, “Our goal is to position Nigeria as a leading destination for technology outsourcing, creating a model that leverages global expertise and local talent.” Earlier, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi emphasized the initiative’s importance, calling it a unique opportunity for the youth.

He encouraged the populace to “explore the Digital World of ICT Outsourcing and take advantage of its benefits, especially in terms of job creation and opportunities to contribute to our economic growth.”

Governor Namadi highlighted Jigawa’s history with ICT education, noting, “The State boasts hundreds of thousands of ICT-savvy and qualified youths across various fields, thanks to our reputable Informatics Institute established over two decades ago.”

He announced the creation of a new ICT & Digital Economy Agency, stating, “We are more committed than ever to establishing Jigawa State as a major ICT hub in Nigeria.”

Shettima also launched the 4th edition of the Expanded National Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Clinic, revealing that Bola Tinubu has authorized a grant of N150,000 for each business owner in the state as part of the federal government’s support for MSMEs nationwide. According to Shettima, this grant is an outright gift with no repayment required.

“Distinguished guests, I am pleased to announce that His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, has directed that a grant of N150,000 be awarded to outstanding MSMEs showcased at today’s event. This is an outright grant, and the recipients will not need to repay it,” he stated.

The Expanded National MSME Clinics aims to ease business operations in Nigeria through a series of forums across the country, addressing the challenges faced by MSMEs. The first three editions were held in Benue, Ogun, and Ekiti States earlier this year.

Shettima underscored the importance of the MSMEs sector, which he said represents 96% of all businesses in Nigeria, contributes over 45% to its GDP, and supports 80% of the workforce.

“We understand your vital role, and that’s why we are setting up MSME clinics nationwide.

These clinics will serve as incubators for small businesses, providing alternative financing and the support needed to thrive,” he added.

He assured business owners of continued support from the Tinubu administration.

Governor Namadi thanked the Federal Government for the benefits provided to the people of Jigawa through the MSME Clinics and related projects.

He encouraged small business owners to take advantage of the services offered through these clinics, describing them as a rare opportunity for the state’s business sector.

The event concluded with an inspection of exhibition pavilions by MSMEs in the State and the inauguration of the Jigawa Retail Empowerment Shops at the Mallam Aminu Kano Triangle.
