During 2012 Protest We Did Not Hear Anything Like Oro Festival—Rufai

Renowned journalist and broadcaster, Oseni Rufai have criticised the use of the Oro festival to halt the planned national protest on August 1.

Rufai’s statement comes following the announcement of Oro festival which is to take place on the exact day of the planned protest.

Earlier, Oro festival has been trending on X (formerly Twitter) after a pro-Lagos social media page announced that the festival would take place during the planned nationwide protests from August 1 to 15, 2024.

The post read, “Attention residents and visitors of Lagos. Please be informed that the Oro festival will be observed in various communities across Lagos from the 1st of August to August 15. This traditional Yoruba cultural event involves significant rituals.”

However reacting to this development, Rufai took to his X page on Thursday and stated that during the 2012 protest, there was nothing like Oro festival. He wondered where such festival is coming from.

He wrote, “In 2012, when they protested we didn’t hear about Oro.”

He further added that according to report, the so called Oro festival is false.

“I also hear the Oro story isn’t true. We mustn’t hear stories. I hear the Oro story is not true, but we must hear about Oro ooo,” he added.
