Nigerian political activist Aisha Yesufu has urged the Department of State Services (DSS) to focus its resources on gathering intelligence about kidnappers, terrorists, and unknown gunmen.
This call for action came in response to the DSS’s claim that it had identified the sponsors and funders of the proposed nationwide protest against economic hardship and bad governance.
In a statement on Thursday, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya described the protest’s motive as political.
He cautioned the organizers of the planned protests against proceeding with them.
According to the statement, the DSS had uncovered a scheme by certain criminal elements to hijack the protest and incite unrest in the country.
However, Yesufu responded in a post on her X handle on Friday, stating that the DSS’s failure to gather intelligence on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and unknown gunmen has significantly contributed to the hunger affecting the nation.
She said: “DSS should counsel itself on its failure to gather intelligence on the terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and unknown gunmen that have terrorized the nation and forced farmers to flee their farms which has greatly contributed to the hunger in the land.”
