Suspected Herdsmen Kill Three IDPs in Benue State

Suspected herdsmen have killed three internally displaced people (IDPs) who were residing in a camp in Agagbe, Gwer-West Local Government Area, of Benue State. When the victims went to a nearby stream to fish on Monday afternoon, the attackers ambushed them.

The chairman of Agagbe camps, Terna Jacob, confirmed the incident to reporters on Tuesday. He said the victims were Iorhemba Cletus, 37; Akaa Clifford, 50; and Igbahemba Abua, 55. They were residents of Block 2, Room 2, of the IDP camp.

Jacob said Cletus, Clifford, and Abua left for Gbange/Tomgov Council Ward on Monday morning to fish and sell their catch to provide for their families. He said Clifford was also using the proceeds to pay for the medical bills of his sick wife.

However, they did not return to the camp as expected. Later, their relatives and friends discovered and buried their bodies.

Jacob said the IDPs in Agagbe camp were living in fear and insecurity as they faced constant attacks from armed herdsmen. He appealed to the government and security agencies to protect them and restore peace in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Benue State, SP Catherine Anene, said she had not received any report of the incident as of the time of filing this report.
