The police have acknowledged that corruption within their ranks is a reflection of the broader dishonesty prevalent in Nigerian society.
This assertion was made by the national police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in response to a query on social media.
An X user, @peter_eli7, asked, “Nigeria police are so corrupt. Why, sir?” to which Adejobi succinctly replied, “Because our society is corrupt.”
Moreover, Bright Edafe, the police public relations officer in Delta, supported Adejobi’s statement by emphasizing that the police force mirrors the society it serves.
“The police of any society is the product of the society,” Edafe noted.
A recent report by Transparency International placed Nigeria among the majority of countries with high-to-critical corruption risks in their defense and security sectors.
