Rigged Poll: How US Placed $15m Reward for Arrest of Venezuelan President Maduro, Others Over Drug Trafficking, Narco-Terrorism, Corruption

U.S. Department of State announced a $15 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and other high-ranking officials.

This decision on March 26, 2020 came amid allegations of drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and widespread corruption within Maduro’s administration.

“For more than 20 years, Maduro and several high-ranking colleagues allegedly conspired with the FARC, causing tons of cocaine to enter and devastate American communities. The Venezuelan regime, once led by Nicolás Maduro Moros, remains plagued by criminality and corruption,” said Attorney General Barr as quoted by the official website of the United States government.

However, Nicolás Maduro again claimed an unlikely victory in Venezuela’s presidential election on Sunday, securing a third six-year term in a result that opposition leaders contested, saying the regime had falsified the vote count.

Six hours after polling stations were supposed to close, the regime-controlled National Electoral Council said that the 61-year-old leader would extend his 11-year rule into the next decade after garnering 5.1 million ballots, taking 51.2% of the vote, to 4.4 million, or 44.2% of the vote, for his opponent Edmundo González.

Nicolás Maduro’s declaration of victory in Venezuela’s presidential election has plunged the South American nation into a perilous standoff.

Numerous regional and global leaders question the vote’s legitimacy and transparency.

Widespread protests erupted across the capital and various states. In Falcón, demonstrators were captured on video dismantling a statue of Hugo Chávez, while in Portuguesa, footage showed a group defacing a billboard that featured a photograph of Maduro with the slogan “More Changes and Transformation.”
