SPRF To Raise N10 Billion For Young Athletes

In an effort to honor young athletes, the Sports and Recreation Foundation (SPRF) has declared its intention to raise N10 billion. This program is part of the foundation’s effort to support sports and develop young talent in Nigeria.

NAN reports that the president of SPRF, Musa Kida, said this at a world news conference on Thursday in Abuja to unveil the plans of the Fund.

According to NAN, Kida clarified that the money would be raised from both the public and private sectors, from people and organizations both domestically and internationally.

He also declared that the money would be made available as a prize for future generations of Nigerian athletes who place first or second in major world championships, the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Africa Games.

“At the moment, the proposed rewards are as follows: Olympics: gold: N10 million; silver: N7.5 million; and bronze: N5 million.

“Common Wealth: Gold: N5 million; Silver: N3 million; and Bronze: N2 million.

“Africa Games: Gold: N3 million; Silver: N2 million; and Bronze: N1 million.

“The rewards for medals at major world championships will be the same as at the Africa Games,” he stated.

The SPRF is confident that this fund will help young athletes succeed in their chosen sports by giving them the tools they need to succeed in addition to serving as an incentive.

Several parties involved in the sports sector have praised the decision, viewing it as a critical step in fostering and advancing the nation’s sporting talent. They think that by encouraging more young people to participate in sports, such programs can significantly contribute to the expansion of sports in Nigeria.
