EFCC Apprehends Emefiele After DSS Release

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) not long after the Department of State Services (DSS) released him.

Less than an hour after Emefiele was discharged from the DSS’s custody on Thursday night, he was picked up.

He is presently being questioned at the EFCC’s national headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Emefiele is being investigated by the EFCC for potential wrongdoing while he was the head of the top bank.

Emefiele was detained by the DSS in June, the same day Bola Tinubu abruptly removed him from office.

The “ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy” were the reasons for Emefiele’s suspension at the time, according to the Presidency.

The EFCC may bring further accusations against Mr. Emefiele. However, it was not possible to obtain an official confirmation from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.
