Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface won the Golden Boot award after finishing joint top scorer in last season’s Europa League.
Boniface netted six goals while playing for the Belgian club Union SG, helping them advance to the quarterfinals. However, Union SG lost to his current side, Leverkusen, in that round.
The Super Eagles forward was given the honor before Leverkusen’s Europa League match against Qarabag on Thursday.
He continued to score and dish out assists as Leverkusen defeated Qarabag 5-1 to win their third straight group match.
It was his 10th goal of the season in all competitions and his second in the Europa League.
In the summer transfer window, Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen, and the German giants have been doing well under his leadership in the attack.
He is anticipated to have a significant impact on Bayer Leverkusen’s efforts to win the league this year.
