Jesutega Onokpasa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has criticized Bola Tinubu, stating that the current appointees lack the competence needed to lead the country effectively.
He stated, “Tinubu, many of us supported you because we believed in your track record, especially what you accomplished in Lagos.
But what worked in Lagos was mobilizing Lagosians to fix Lagos. You cannot apply the same approach to Nigeria. To fix Nigeria, you need to mobilize Nigerians, not just Lagosians.”
“You can form the core of a team that is basically a Lagosian-based team to fix Nigeria. It is mathematically incongruous. These Lagosians you brought to Abuja to help you fix Nigeria, with respect they are useless.
“That your Chief of Staff, (Femi) Gbajabiamila is the most useless of them; you will have to dismantle this team. With respect to my president; you will have to dismantle and rebuild a thorough Nigerian core.”
Last year, some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Bola Tinubu for what they perceived as biased appointments within his administration. The APC members, operating under the name Progressive Change Ambassadors of Nigeria (PCAN), claimed that appointments to top positions were predominantly given to individuals from the South West region.
In a statement from PCAN Executive Director Alhaji Abdulkareem Ubaydah and Secretary Muhammad Rabiu Awwal E, the group accused Tinubu of overlooking competent and qualified individuals from other ethnic groups in the country.
“Tinubu we write to you today as concerned citizens of Nigeria and deeply troubled members of your party – the All Progressives Congress (APC) to express our deep concern about the perceived imbalance in your political appointments so far,” the statement read.
“We have observed that a significant majority of these appointments have been made from your southwest geopolitical zone and especially from your ethnic group – the Yorubas, to the exclusion of other qualified and competent individuals from other parts of the country.
“This has led to widespread feelings of alienation and resentment among Nigerians from other parts of the country. While we understand that you are entitled to appoint people you trust and believe in, we as stakeholders in the political party under which you assumed office as President of Nigeria, reserve the right to urge you to consider the importance of national unity and inclusiveness in your appointments.
“It is important to remember always that you are the President of all Nigerians, not just that of Yorubas of the southwest geopolitical zone.”
The APC group further urged the President to ensure balance in coming appointments.
