Twenty people, including firefighters and members of the Kaduna State Vigilante Service, were hurt in an explosion involving a petrol tanker at a petrol station in the Kaduna suburb of Rigasa.
The event happened on Wednesday at the station as the tanker was unloading fuel.
When the tanker burst, it was reported that the injured were trying to put out the flames that had taken over.
Five firefighters and a few bystanders who had gathered near the petrol station to see the fire were among the casualties.
In an interview on Thursday in Kaduna, Mr. Paul Aboi, the Director of the Kaduna State Fire Service, verified the occurrence and charged the damaged fuel station’s management with negligence. It was improper, in his opinion, for the petrol station to offload petrol in the afternoon.
Five federal firefighters, a few members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service, and bystanders were among those hurt, according to Mr. Aboi.
According to a woman whose family’s home was damaged by the fire near the filling station, her brother and his son were critically injured in the explosion and suffered severe burns.
