Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has mocked South Africans after Nigerian-affiliated model, Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, was forced to withdraw from the Miss South Africa contest due to bullying.
Mia Le Roux, a descendant of the Dutch settlers in South Africa, also known as Boers, was crowned Miss South Africa 2024 on Saturday night, emerging as the winner ahead of nine predominantly black models, despite being deaf.
Her victory has sparked reactions from Nigerians and other Africans, who have mocked black South Africans for failing to produce a black winner after vehemently opposing Adetshina’s candidacy due to her Nigerian and Mozambican heritage.
Reacting to the outcome, Burna Boy shared a photo of the white winner on his X account with the caption, “So after all that… [laugh emoji],” referencing the backlash against Adetshina.
South African singer Tyla also condemned the bullying of Adetshina, expressing her disappointment over the harsh treatment the model received from her compatriots.
