Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has stated that he has no apologies for his recent criticism of Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, which he believes are causing hardship for Nigerians.
Speaking during a State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, Mohammed emphasized his responsibility as a leader to address issues that may spark controversy, particularly in light of the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.
Governor Mohammed, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clarified that his intention was not to offend anyone but to accurately address the situation.
He underscored the importance of government leaders listening to public concerns, especially when expectations have not been met.
He stated, “All of us here, as leaders—members of councils, commissioners representing local governments—are aware of the situation on the ground. You represent the people here. It’s crucial that we listen when Nigerians raise their voices against poor governance, especially in areas where expectations have not been met.”
The governor pointed to both national policies and global economic conditions as contributing factors to the challenges faced by Nigerians. Despite the criticism, Mohammed insisted that his remarks were constructive, aimed at benefiting Tinubu, the government, and the citizens of Nigeria.
He added, “Whoever made harsh or critical remarks about me must understand that it’s the cost of leadership, and I have no apology for that. My comments were not meant to cause disaffection or insult anyone. This isn’t about partisan politics—it’s about responsibility.”
He further assured that his administration would continue to develop policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of the people, despite the existing challenges and limited resources.
