The Federal Government has attributed the worsening fuel scarcity across states to hoarding by oil marketers.
In response, the government has threatened to revoke the licenses of those found guilty of hoarding Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
According to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), hoarding is a key factor behind the ongoing fuel shortages in Abuja, Niger, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and several other northern states.
Ogbugo Ukoha, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure at NMDPRA, issued a stern warning to oil marketers during an inspection tour in Abuja, captured in a video shared by the regulator.

Ukoha cautioned a manager at one of the inspected stations, stating, “Take this warning very seriously.
If you require additional security measures, please consult with your management team.” This warning emphasized the regulator’s resolve to enforce compliance and tackle the fuel scarcity crisis.
The NMDPRA has also declared a crackdown on the illegal sale of petroleum products, particularly PMS in jerrycans.
The agency advised filling stations to cease supplying illegal peddlers, warning that failure to comply would lead to the suspension of their retail licenses.
