The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not the cause of Nigeria’s electoral woes, but rather, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to blame.
In a statement made on his official X handle, Amadi argued that APC should not be blamed for electoral irregularities, as the party is not responsible for regulating elections. He pointed out that the real issue lies with INEC, which he described as a “curse” on Nigeria’s electoral process.
Amadi’s comments were in response to a post by X user @Ose Anineh, who accused the APC of colluding with INEC officials to manipulate election results during the recent gubernatorial election in Imo State. Anineh had urged Nigerians to reject the APC, labeling the party a “curse.”
However, Amadi countered by emphasising that the responsibility for fair elections rests with INEC, not any political party.
He further criticized the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, for not taking any significant action to reform the structure and culture of election management in Nigeria.
Amadi stated, “APC is not a curse. It isn’t the regulator of elections. @inecnigeria is. It’s INEC that is a curse.
“Let’s call it is. The same INEC is warming up to conduct 2027 election. Neither @PeterObi or @atiku is doing anything to change the structure and culture of election management,” he added.
