No Vacancy for APC in Abia State in 2027 — LP Rep Responds to Kalu’s Remarks

Hon. Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in Abia State, has responded to remarks made by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu concerning the political future of Abia State.

In a statement released on Monday, Aguocha, a member of the Labour Party (LP), criticized Kalu’s assertion that Abia State would shift to the All Progressives Congress (APC) by 2027.

Kalu had claimed in a recent video that the current LP governor, Alex Otti, would be the last LP governor of Abia, and that the APC would take control of the state.

Aguocha firmly dismissed these predictions, stating, “There is no vacancy in Abia State in 2027.” He expressed confidence that the people of Abia would re-elect Governor Otti, citing the governor’s achievements as a key factor in their decision.

The LP Rep described Kalu’s comments as “condescending, denigrating, and disrespectful” towards both Governor Otti and the Labour Party. Aguocha further accused Kalu of “brazen indiscretion” and lacking humility in his claims that the APC would dominate Abia politics in the next election.

Kalu, in his video, reportedly highlighted his position within the federal government and expressed a desire to deliver Abia State to the APC as a gesture of gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support in the Southeast.

In response, Aguocha condemned Kalu’s approach, urging him to focus on his legislative duties and work towards reducing marginalization in the Southeast instead of making what he described as “reckless” political statements.
