Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are backing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, vowing to “put fire in their states.”
Wike made this threat during the Rivers State PDP Congress held in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital. In his address, Wike asserted that no one would be able to take control of the PDP structure from him and his supporters.
“Not while we live will anybody take the PDP structure from us. I hear that some governors claim they will take the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states,” Wike declared.
The FCT Minister, who has had a strained relationship with Fubara since the latter became governor in 2023, expressed his determination to retain control over the party in Rivers State, warning that those who challenge his authority would face severe consequences.
“We are party members, we have taken over our party members. We will not leave for anybody or allow anybody to take the party from us.
“Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to somebody. I hear that they have given them assurance that they will take the party from us. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace. Whether you are in Bauchi or wherever, your hands will get burnt. You will never see pace again,” Wike added.
The ongoing rift between Wike and Fubara has divided the Rivers State legislative body into factions, and despite attempts by party members to mediate, the situation remains unresolved.
The continued support of PDP governors for Fubara has further escalated tensions between the two leaders.
