Islamic scholar Sheikh Aliyu Ibrahim has criticized the recent increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, calling it “total madness.”
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raised the price of fuel from N617 to N897 per litre on Tuesday, leading to widespread economic disruption with soaring transportation fares and increased costs of goods and services.
In a viral video, Sheikh Ibrahim condemned the decision, attributing it to poor advice to Chief Bola Tinubu.
He predicted that the fuel price hike would significantly impact Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027, stating that no rational voter would support a government that has drastically increased PMS prices from N180 to N1,000.
He stated, “The hike in PMS price is a total madness, whoever advised the president to do this is mad.
“And this is yet another sign that Tinubu would lose his reelection bid, because no sane person would vote for those who took the PMS price from N180 – N1,000,” he added.
