In a recent development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 72 students from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The operation, conducted on Monday morning, targeted two off-campus hostels, with the students and their vehicles subsequently transported to the EFCC’s Ibadan office.
Akinremi Abass, the Obafemi Awolowo University Students’ Union President, confirmed the incident and indicated that union representatives are en route to Ibadan to gather more information concerning the incident.
Condemning the incident via It’s X platform, the OAU Students’ Union stated, “we strongly condemn the recent unjust arrest and harassment of our fellow students by members of the EFCC @officialEFCC in the odd hours of today, Nov 1st, 2023.

“This action is unacceptable and goes against the principles of justice and due process,” it added.
The Students’ Union emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to ensure the safety and rights of the detained students.
