The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to ten #EndBadGovernance protesters accused of attempting to overthrow chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Each defendant was granted N10 million bail, along with strict conditions, including providing a surety who must be a resident and property owner in Abuja.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite on Wednesday, who ordered the defendants and sureties to deposit their international passports and recent photographs with the court.
The protesters, who were arrested during nationwide demonstrations between July 1 and August 4, 2024, face charges of treason under sections 96, 410, and 413 of the Penal Code.
The Inspector General of Police accused them of inciting violence, including breaking into the Abacha Army Barracks, burning a police station, and damaging public properties such as a High Court and National Communication Commission (NCC) facilities.
The court rejected objections to bail by the police, while instructing the defendants not to participate in public rallies during their trial.
The accused persons are Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis and Abduldalam Zubair.
They are to remain in custody until their bail conditions are met. The trial is set to commence on September 27, 2024. #protesters
