Tinubu, Other Old Politicians Should Step Aside for Youths to Lead Nigeria—Anglican Church

Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), has urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other older political leaders to step aside, allowing younger generations to take the reins.

Ndukuba emphasized that the youth are well-prepared and better equipped to address the challenges facing their generation.

He also praised Tinubu for his initiative to organize a national youth conference.

During a nationwide address marking Nigeria’s Independence Day, Tinubu announced plans for a 30-day national youth conference aimed at tackling the various challenges and opportunities confronting Nigeria’s young people, who make up more than 60 percent of the population.

Ndukuba expressed his support for this initiative during an interview in Abuja, held on the sidelines of the 25th annual women’s conference themed ‘Let this Mind be in You Which Was Also in Christ.’

He noted that, much like the youth of pre-independence Nigeria, today’s young people are ready to lead the nation.

The Archbishop noted that the youth conference would help create a roadmap for addressing longstanding issues affecting young Nigerians.

However, he stressed that, beyond the conference, it is time for aging politicians to begin stepping aside, recognizing that the solutions to youth challenges lie with the youth themselves.

“They are ready, and they are the ones that can speak to their generation. They are the ones who can engage with the challenges that are coming in the future. We cannot do it for them, and we will always be there to guide them, to educate them, to correct them, to support them.

“But the way politics is done in Nigeria. It is like it goes to the highest bidder, and the young people may not have been empowered enough to be able to pay the cost that is demanded.

“So we want to encourage and assure the President of our support in this direction,” he said.

The primate vowed the religious body’s support for the government to ensure a smooth transition of power.
