The United States (US) Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria has issued a security warning, urging American citizens in the country to exercise caution when visiting hotels in major cities due to an elevated threat to security.
In an emergency information bulletin dated November 3, the US government alerted its citizens in Nigeria to be vigilant while in the vicinity of major hotels in larger urban areas.
The advisory also called for a low-profile approach and emphasised the importance of reviewing the current travel advisory for Nigeria before making hotel arrangements.
“The United State Government has received credible information indicating an increased security threat to major hotels in Nigeria’s metropolitan areas. Nigerian security services are actively working to mitigate this threat,” the statement read.
“The US Department of State strongly recommended that American citizens take this information into account when making lodging arrangements or visiting hotels in Nigeria. Travelers were advised to exercise vigilance, maintain awareness of their surroundings, and adopt a discreet profile during their stay, the notice read.”

The notice additionally provided the contact information for the United State embassy in Abuja and the consulate in Lagos, enabling U.S. citizens to reach out for assistance if required.
The security alert serves as a reminder for United State citizens in Nigeria to remain cautious and informed while traveling in the country and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
