A group of sports journalists traveling through Anambra State on their way to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to cover a football event were kidnapped.
The journalists, about 11 in total, were en route to report on the Super Eagles’ African Nations Cup qualifier against Libya, scheduled for Friday in Uyo.
According to a source who spoke with DAILY POST, the journalists were abducted on Wednesday while traveling by bus through Iseke, near the Ihiala area of Anambra State.
By Thursday morning, another source reported that nine of the journalists had been rescued, but one is feared dead. Four others remain in captivity.
Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, told reporters on Thursday that police teams have been dispatched to secure the release of the remaining captives.
“We intercepted the information as was being shared on various social media platforms yesterday, and we went to work immediately.
